About us

We – the people behind GOWITHME - are a family of four: Jeremy, Angela, Jez and Sarah. Jez is studying for a PhD in English at QMC, London. Sarah graduated last year and is living and working in Guildford. Jeremy and Angela are lawyers living in North Yorkshire and working from home.

The name GOWITHME means asking people to “go with my idea” or “go with me on this project”.  We have plenty of other ideas for adding new sections to GOWITHME: click here to read about some of them and please send us your views - we want to develop this website responsively.

Like many couples, we do not want to be doing the same things all the time.  At home we have 2.5 acres or so, divided into the main garden, a vegetable garden and orchard with hens, a field for Hannah the donkey, and a field for rare breed pigs. Jeremy does a huge amount of charitable work, and in his limited free time is happy to be at home “messing about” in the field, making shelters, cleaning out, mending fences etc. A relaxing weekend for him would involve hiring a mini-digger and moving the manure pile around. His 2006 Christmas present was two 11 week old British Saddlebacks, called 'Ardie Peace (a boar) and Sally Joy, to keep company with our Large Black sow, Mrs Lucy Wilson, who was widowed last August.

Meanwhile Angela, still working full-time, was starting to attend drawing and watercolour classes, and wanting to try learning to sail dinghies, and to learn to ride. And was realising that these things are more fun if you share them with someone who has the same enthusiasm. Sometimes one or other of us wants to go to a concert or to the theatre, but an evening like that can be spoilt if you are constantly worrying that your spouse sitting next to you is about to start snoring!  Again, it is a question of finding someone to go with.

Finally in September the light bulb moment arrived – a website would enable people with an activity in mind to locate other people interested in the same thing, and they could join forces for inspiration, encouragement, company, security, and increased enjoyment.

So that is how GOWITHME was born.

At GOWITHME the activity matters more than the description of the person you go with. And although travel is one of our website areas, the emphasis is on the method of travel – the experience and activity – rather than on the destination, so it is definitely not a holiday site either.

The type of activity is unlimited, so long as it is decent and legal!  The sort of people who will use this site will be confident enough to welcome an opportunity to share experiences with strangers, many of whom will surely become friends. They will be people who will not be devastated if their message does not receive a response, or if the person they meet through the site does not prove to be a suitable companion. Above all, they will be people who are open-minded, adventurous, very keen to take part in their particular activity, and looking forward to maximising the enjoyment of their leisure pursuits by sharing them with someone like-minded.
