How to protect yourself

GOWITHME will not carry out any checks on the people leaving messages or replies. You are responsible for your own security.

Your email address and other personal details will not be revealed by GOWITHME to anyone unless we are required to disclose information by law.

GOWITHME recommends that you read and follow all the following suggestions for your own protection when making contact with anyone through GOWITHME:

  • In your messages and replies, do not reveal any information which enables you to be identified, until you are satisfied that it is safe to do so.  Such information includes your name, address (or part of it), email and website addresses, and telephone numbers.
  • If you telephone or email anyone you have met through the site, decide whether to take steps (described by your service provider) to hide your own telephone number or email address when you contact them.
  • When you wish to provide the other person with contact details, mark your message private, (see private messages) and no-one else visiting the site will see it.
  • never give any credit card, bank or other financial details to anyone in your GOWITHME messages, whether they are private messages or not.
  • remember that anyone can register with GOWITHME and we do not know if their motives are honest or legal.
  • you should ask for references and make all sensible checks before entering into any commitment to join a GOWITHME correspondent in any activity.
  • if you receive unnecessary requests for information about yourself or if anything else makes you feel uncomfortable, stop corresponding at once and inform GOWITHME.
  • be aware that your correspondent knows nothing about you either – be sensitive when corresponding.
  • do not arrange your first meeting in a private place - meet in public and walk away if anything makes you feel uncomfortable.
  • consider telling someone where you are going, and why. Or taking someone along with you.
